A 10-year-old African lion at the Pittsburgh Zoo has died after he suffered a grand mal seizure, zoo veterinarians announced on Wednesday.

Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens recently invited the community to help name its newest residents, three African lion cubs. Typically, zoo staff selects appropriate names for newborns at the zoo. This time, however, the public was invited to submit names for the three male cubs. The Naples Zoo announced the winning names as Ruaha, Chobe and Karoo. Naples Zoo’s carnivore keepers had the opportunity to narrow the names down to the top five name sets and the community made the final vote. With a 52% landslide win, the cubs’ names, Ruaha, Chobe and Karoo are all names of national parks in Africa. At press time, the zoo had not released the names of the winning person or persons.
